(Design Study)
This project is located on the last available property on King Street in Historic Alexandria, VA. The design study develops an 8-story apartment building on the empty lot behind the 5 historic row houses that face King Street, which would be converted to small commercial retail space. The bottom two floors of the apartment building would accommodate tenant parking and the 6 upper floors would have up to 8 apartments each. The scale and sight lines of the new building from the street were carefully studied, as well as pedestrian and vehicular access. Materials like brick, and other historic details, were incorporated into the design of the facades to tie into the existing historic fabric.
